Gdy wrzos idzie w pełnię barwy, a nad łąkami snują się pierwsze nici babiego lata, zaczyna się czas Rodzanic. Lato nie wydaje już plonów dla rąk ludzkich, ziemia przechodzi w stan ciszy, a widzialny świat ustępuje miejsca temu, co niewidoczne: losowi, narodzinom, opiece nad progiem nowego życia. Rodzanice to istoty wyznaczające przeznaczenie noworodków, nawiedzały dom po narodzinach dziecka, by wpisać mu los na całe życie. Ich święto przypada na ten przejściowy moment roku, gdy lato zamienia się w jesień, a nić pajęczyny babiego lata staje się obrazem nici losu, snującej się przez ludzkie życie.
Kobiety zanosiły modły o lekki połóg, zdrowie noworodka i pomyślność domu. Rodzanice miały przybywać po narodzinach dziecka i wyznaczać jego los, stąd praktyki ochronne: strzeżenie matki i dziecka, symboliczne zapraszanie opiekunek narodzin do domostwa, prośby o dobry los wypowiedziane nad kołyską.
Kobiety wróżyły z losu dziecka, przędły nić na znak zaproszenia Rodzanic, wyplatały wianki i zawieszały białe tkaniny przy kołysce lub progu domu.
Nazwa „Rodzanice” pochodzi od słowiańskiego rdzenia rod-, związanego z rodzeniem, rodziną i ładem życia, tego samego, od którego pochodzi słowo „rodzina” i „urodzaj”. Są wcieleniem zasady wyznaczania losu: przychodząc po narodzinach dziecka, tkają niewidzialną nić jego przeznaczenia. Ich naturą jest zarówno opieka, jak i nieuchronność, bo los, który nadają, jest wiążący. W późniejszej interpretacji, zbliżonej do greckich Mojr, przedstawia się je jako trzy kobiety w różnych fazach życia: dziewczynkę, kobietę dojrzałą i staruszkę, czyli pełny cykl ludzkiego istnienia.
Najważniejszym symbolem Rodzanic jest nić i przędza, atrybuty tkania losu. Żywiołem bliskim Rodzanicom jest powietrze: nić babiego lata unosząca się w jesiennym bezwietrzu staje się obrazem losu, który snują.

Rodzanice
celebrated at the beginning of Rujeń (September)
When the heather reaches its full bloom and the first threads of Indian summer begin to tangle over the meadows, the time of Rodzanice begins. Summer no longer yields harvests for human hands, the earth falls into a state of silence, and the visible world gives way to the invisible: fate, birth, and nurturing the threshold of new life. Rodzanice are creatures who determine the destiny of newborns; they visited homes after a child's birth to inscribe their lifelong destiny. Their celebration falls at that transitional time of year, when summer turns to autumn, and the thread of the Indian summer web becomes an image of the thread of fate that weaves through human life.
Women offered prayers for an easy delivery, the health of the newborn, and the prosperity of the home. Rodzanitsa were said to arrive after the child's birth and determine its fate, hence the protective practices: guarding the mother and child, symbolically inviting birth attendants into the home, and praying for good fortune over the cradle.
Women would tell the child's fate, spin thread as a sign of the Rodzanitsa's invitation, weave wreaths, and hang white fabrics by the cradle or doorstep.
The name "Rodzanice" comes from the Slavic root rod-, associated with childbirth, family, and the order of life, the same root from which the words "family" and "harvest" originate. They embody the principle of determining fate: coming after a child's birth, they weave the invisible thread of its destiny. Their nature is both nurturing and inevitability, for the fate they bestow is binding. In a later interpretation, similar to the Greek Moirai, they are depicted as three women in different stages of life: a girl, a mature woman, and an old woman, representing the full cycle of human existence.
The most important symbol of Rodzanice is thread and yarn, attributes of weaving fate. The element close to the Rodzanice is air: the thread of Indian summer floating in the autumn windlessness becomes an image of the fate they weave.
